Training Time: 9am - 4:30pm


This DSM-5 training provides an overview of the manual's major structural changes and reviews its use of developmental approach, biological markers and dimensional assessment. The training will also focus on highlighting significant changes from DSM-IV including new classes of child and adult psychiatric disorders, advances in substance-related/addictive disorder diagnoses and the concept of spectrum disorders along with many other topics. This training will also highlight cultural assessment and treatment formulations as well as culturally based concepts of distress and illness.


At the completion of the training, participants will be able to:


1. Identify at least three major changes from DSM-IV to DSM-5.

2. Construct a DSM-5 disgnosis using the manual and a case vignette.

3. Describes some of the strenghts and potential limitations of DSM-5.

4. Identify at least two new/modified diagnoses from each major grouping of psychiatric disorders included in the DSM-5.

5. Describe at least two cultural concepts of distress.


Optional 6.0 CEUs are offered for this event at an additional cost of $30.00, payable by check or credit card on the day of the training.
